			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The Williams College Museum of Art seeks six interns for the summer of 2013. These are all paid internships. Note that in accordance with College policy, precedence will be given to students currently receiving financial aid and all internships will be offered to students at the college. Student Museum Associates are also given preference.  All WCMA interns are asked to work on July 4<sup>th</sup> as part of a town-wide celebration.  Several interns will be called upon to give guided tours of the museum’s summer exhibitions (training to be provided as needed.)</p>
<p><span style="font-size: 13px;line-height: 19px">Each student reports directly to one of the Museum’s staff members.  While internships have an educational focus, occasional office support is expected during staff vacation times.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 13px;line-height: 19px">Summer positions at WCMA last for 8 – 12 weeks during the 15-week period between the end of the spring semester and the start of the next academic year.  Exact beginning and end dates are negotiable.  The work week is 35 hours.</span></p>
<p><strong>AVAILABLE POSITIONS:</strong></p>
<p><strong>1.  <span style="text-decoration: underline">Education Interns</span></strong><span style="font-size: 13px;line-height: 19px">:  </span><strong>THREE</strong><span style="font-size: 13px;line-height: 19px"> positions available to assist the Education Department and work with Sonnet Coggins, Associate Director of Academic and Public Engagement, and Amelia Wood, Coordinator of Education Programs. The Education Department designs interpretative programming, experiences, and materials to make exhibitions, collections, and the museum itself more relevant and meaningful to diverse audiences. Activities include developing strategies to engage audiences, creating opportunities for rich experiences with art, developing interpretative material. Interns will work on all aspects of audience engagement:  conducting research on exhibitions and collections; writing interpretative material; planning, implementing and evaluating programs; and teaching and sharing their passion for art with college students, K-12 students, teachers, and adult audiences.</span></p>
<p><strong><span style="text-decoration: underline"> </span></strong></p>
<p><strong>2.  <span style="text-decoration: underline">Mellon Intern</span>:  ONE</strong> position available working closely with Maurita Poole, Mellon Curatorial Fellow for Diversity in the Arts.  The intern in this position would assist in conducting research about WCMA’s permanent collection for her upcoming exhibition.</p>
<p><strong><span style="text-decoration: underline"> </span></strong></p>
<p><strong>3.  <span style="text-decoration: underline">Preparator’s Intern</span></strong>:  <strong>ONE</strong> position available.  The candidate for this position will be working directly for Hideyo Okamura, Exhibition Designer and Chief Preparator, on day-to-day gallery operations.  He/she would be involved in working closely with the art handlers and learning all aspects of installation, art preparation, lighting design, and exhibition layout. This person will also be assisting in the installation of our new exhibition, <em>Now Dig This!</em></p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p><strong>4.  <span style="text-decoration: underline">Registrarial Intern</span>:  ONE</strong> position available.  Working closely with Rachel Tassone, the Associate Registrar, this internship will focus on organizing, preparing and packing 35mm slides for digitization. These slides represent an important visual archive of the museum’s exhibition and event program. The intern will assist with image file sequence and assign descriptive file names to groups. Each group will then be tagged and bundled for processing by a scanning service. All sequencing and file names will be recorded on an Excel spreadsheet prior to shipment. Assisting in a physical inventory of art objects in storage will also be expected. Strong organization skills and attention to detail is critical</p>

This highly varied and exciting one-year student internship provides an opportunity to gain broad experience in higher education with the Alumni Relations Office.</p>
<p>Work and learn with our highly dedicated and motivated staff as well as our famously loyal alumni volunteers. The Alumni Relations Student Intern position offers the opportunity to help strengthen relationships between the Society of Alumni and undergraduates. The student intern will assist in advertising the events and the services provided by the Alumni Relations office and, through outreach to undergraduates, provide information to peers who may not be aware of the benefits of the Society of Alumni.  Specifically, the intern coordinates plans for a number of undergraduate events hosted by the Office of Alumni Relations including the Senior Trivia Night at the Log and the Senior Welcome. Applicants should have an interest in event planning and be outgoing, creative and detail oriented. Similarly, applicants must have enthusiasm to engage as a liaison with the greater campus. Qualifications include strong technology, communications, and interpersonal skills. Comfort posting to social media platforms, specifically Twitter and Facebook, is a must. Candidate must be completely reliable and able to remain committed to intern obligations throughout the year. This is a one academic year position beginning in September 2013. A minimum commitment of 6 hours/week is required, with the understanding that the intern may support occasional events on nights and weekends.</p>

<p>Summer Housing Assistants will be hired from June 10, 2013 through August 17, 2013, and housing will be provided.  This is a part-time position (<strong>3-4 hours per week</strong>) and is open to students who will already be staying on campus for the summer for an approved reason including: other summer job, summer research, or other approved reason to stay on campus for Summer 2013.</p>

<p>ROLE and RESPONSIBILITIES:</p>
<ul>
<li>To act community facilitator and enhance the community development within the hall to which they are assigned during the summer months.  Summer Housing Assistants will do this through:
<ul>
<li>Social programming <strong></strong></li>
<li>Hall Decorations – door decorations/bulletin boards/welcome signs</li>
<li>Articulation of the College and Departmental mission</li>
<li>Act as liaison and relay communication to summer residents from Office of Student Life, Facilities as well as work with the Office of Campus Safety and Security</li>
<li>Meet once a week with Assistant Director of Student Involvement – Residential Programs to review building issues, resident issues and programming</li>
<li>Walk through buildings with Assistant Director twice over the course of the summer noting condition and needs of buildings (bulletin boards, building conditions, common space amenities, etc)</li>
<li>Problem solve and mediate summer resident issues and concerns (will do so under supervision of Assistant Director)</li>
<li>Report problems and concerns regarding summer buildings and summer residents to the Assistant Director</li>
<li>All other duties as assigned pertaining to the Summer Housing program</li>
