Fitness Classes at Williams

Tai Chi - Weds. 5:00pm - 6:00pm - 6/29, 7/6, 7/13, 7/20, 7/27

Tai Chi is a relaxing form of meditation. The aim of this ancient practice is to cultivate a sense of inner serenity, strengthen the body, and focus the mind. This 5-week summer course will teach a 17-step, short form of Tai Chi. Background and concepts will be explained, as well. Beginners and early learners are welcome. Each week will build upon the other so attending each week is important. If possible, wearing loose, comfortable clothing is recommended.

Yoga In Detail: All Levels Yoga -
Summer session begins 6/1/16 - 8/26/16.

Devin will lead an approachable class for beginners, experienced practitioners, and everyone in between. Classes will progress to safely and intelligently move the body: stretch and tone in new, fun ways with detailed instruction! In addition to physical benefits of yoga, class can also help you both emotionally and mentally. Each class will be slightly different, but you will walk away knowing postures confidently and with a wealth of knowledge to serve you for years to come. Sign-up for the whole session to watch your practice grow, or drop-in for just a class to learn some new details and ideas to move mindfully.

Dynamic Yoga (Open Level) -
Summer session begins 5/31/16 - 8/25/16 - This class will be offered on Thursdays only in July and August.


This class begins with meditation and seated stretches to help shed the noise of the day. We build to an energetic sequence of vinyasa flow movements, coordinating breath and movement. With close attention to alignment, we usually work towards variations of one or two challenging poses. With creative sequencing, fun music, and a long savasana, this is great way to end the work day.

Gentle Yoga (Open level) -
Summer session begins 6/1/16 - 8/26/16. This class will combine with Yoga in Detail in July and August.

Gentle Yoga nurtures beginners and students of any level who seek a slower, more contemplative practice. Paying close attention to alignment and sequencing, Mary is careful to assess individual needs and to offer safe variations so that the yoga poses and transitions are accessible to every body in the room. Strengthen and lengthen your muscles, create greater flexibility in your joints, and improve your balance and focus. Through regular practice, you will also cultivate a greater sense of well-being and peace.

Yoga (intermediate) -
Not offered during the summer.

In intermediate yoga we practice vinyasa flow, alignment, and asana specifics. The class can range from moderate to vigorous intensity and is designed to improve flexibility, strength, balance, and focus. In light of our physical uniqueness, individuals are encouraged to explore postures in a way that allows for an optimal experience in their own bodies.

Salsa Dancing - Not offered during the summer

In the first month you learn how to train your ear to the Conga beat to give you the confidence to build your first steps as a Salsa dancer. You will learn basic steps, basic right and left turns, cross body leads and shines and it will help you to dance in connection with your partner. Little or no experience needed.

In the 2nd month, you will be able to incorporate and practice more Salsa moves, lead & follow better, learn more challenging steps, traveling turns and shines.

No partner is required to join this class.  Please leave street shoes outside the studio.

Tai Ji (Beginning), Not offered during the summer

Combining deep breathing and flowing movements, tai ji quan (t’ai chi ch’uan) is a gentle form of exercise, meditation, and martial arts that has been found to improve practitioners’ balance, leg strength, cardiovascular endurance, pulse rate, muscular flexibility, immune system response, sleep habits, ability to concentrate, and sense of well-being. In this 12-week class, you will learn the first part of the Yang-style short form. Instruction is sequential; each class builds on the previous.
