These sessions will teach basic mindfulness practices, which can help settle the mind and relax the body (it can also help one cope with difficult emotions and chronic pain). They will provide instructions on how to do sitting meditation, meditation while lying down, and how to practice mindfulness while walking. No prior experience with meditation or mindfulness practices is necessary!
Bernie Rhie, Associate Professor of English, began his formal Zen Buddhist training at the age of eighteen when he moved for three years to the Sonoma Mountain Zen Center in Santa Rosa, CA. He now practices Zen under the guidance of Ezra Bayda and Elizabeth Hamilton at the Zen Center of San Diego.
