New HR Business Partners at Williams College- who are they and what do they do?

Please Welcome Kristen McCormack (she/her) and George Moran (he/him), our new HR Business Partners!

We are pleased to announce the addition of two Business Partners to the Human Resources department. The Business Partner structure is not new to Human Resources operations, but it is new to Williams.

Business Partners are essentially HR Generalists, who provide support to both managers and staff in all areas of human resources. This includes:

  • Providing individual consultation with employees and supervisors on employee relations and professional development
  • Clarifying policies and answering general questions
  • Being a thought partner on staffing strategies, and approaches to management challenges— an all around resource to move to enhance our employee experience.

Kristen’s experience with Williams runs deep: “For 15 years, I have dedicated my energy to serving students in my employer relations and advising roles at ’68 Center for Career Exploration, managing a robust recruiting program and building the arts, communications, and technology career community. I have forged many trusting partnerships here and hope to engage with employees to build even more impactful relationships as we begin to work together. Prior to Williams, I worked in the training and development field in the financial industry and as an independent consultant. Along the way, I even taught a Winter Study Course!”

And she has called the Berkshires home for over 20 years: “My husband George (a Williams coach) and I have raised three active young men and now devote many hours to our beloved English black lab, Blaze. I hope to cross paths with you on Spring Street or out walking or riding on the new bike trail!”

George is a Berkshire County native who comes to us with extensive experience in all aspects of human resources: “I have worked in HR support and leadership roles in the supermarket, mental health/healthcare, green/sustainable building, and children and family services fields. Most recently, I was one of five Human Resources Business Partners providing support to over 4,000 employees at Berkshire Health Systems.”

George also has deep familiarity with Williams: as a Class of ‘95 graduate he remembers his jobs on campus as a Projectionist for the Art Department, Dining dish bussing, and helping out custodial staff in Currier. As one of the first in his family to attend college he recalls, “I went to Berkshire Community College and then transferred to Williams with an academic scholarship.  I always thought how great it would be, to someday be able to come back to Williams, and give something back to the place that did so much for me.”
