Dear Faculty and Staff Colleagues:
January 1, 2020, marks the beginning of a new year for the College’s benefit plans. The open enrollment period for making any changes is Monday, October 14 – Monday, November 11, 2019. This is an active enrollment process, meaning that subscribers must log in to bswift to confirm or change your elections. An active process ensures that employees annually examine their benefits and make appropriate decisions about the benefits that best suit their own and their families’ needs.
Medical Plans: After two years of no increase to our health insurance premiums, our recent claims experience has not been so favorable. As a result, medical premiums will be increasing by 8.5%. However, after the wellness incentive contribution amount is applied, the impact on your premium is 7.3%-8.1% depending on the plan. The plans remain essentially unchanged, with the addition of coverage for up to 12 acupuncture visits per year (specialist copay will apply).
Dental Plan: Our dental plan claims have also been steadily on the rise over the past few years. That combined with plan enhancements recommended by the Benefits Committee has led to premium increases for 2020. The monthly rates will increase by $0.85 for individuals, $2.13 for employee-plus-one, and $2.82 for families.
Expanded dental plan benefits for 2020 include:
- coverage for adult orthodontia (up to $1,500 lifetime benefit)
- coverage for night mouth guards
- the cost of preventative benefits (bi-annual exam/cleaning and associated X-rays) will no longer count against your calendar year maximum benefit (currently $2,000), leaving the full amount available for other covered services
Vision Plan: The BCBS Blue 20/20 vision plan will continue to be available to employees and their families with no changes to the plans or premiums.
Flexible Savings Accounts: You must log into bswift to complete your election for 2020 FSA Healthcare, FSA Dependent Care and HSA. The annual limits will increase slightly for HSA. As a reminder, for those enrolled in the deductible plans, employees are responsible for a $500 deductible for an individual plan and $1,000 deductible for employee-plus-one and family plans.
Life Insurance and Long-Term Disability: There are no changes to life insurance premiums or options. Please take the time to review your beneficiaries in bswift and update them as needed. Basic and Supplemental LTD premiums will be increasing by 21% also due to an increase in claims over the last few years.
Charitable Contributions: You must log into bswift to complete your election for annual contributions to the Bennington United Way, Berkshire United Way, Northern Berkshire United Way, and Williamstown Community Chest. All contributions will be spread over 24 pay periods.
Personalized Enrollment Statement: You will receive a 2019 Personalized Enrollment Statement by email on October 13, 2019. We recommend you review this. As this is an active enrollment, all employees must log in to bswift to complete Open Enrollment elections or make changes. Please remember to make elections for 2020 FSA Healthcare, FSA Dependent Care, HSA and Charitable Donations, and update your dependents/beneficiaries if needed.
